Khartoum: The Wali (governor) of Khartoum State, Ahmed Osman Hamza, inaugurated the Civil Defense Forces initiative in Ombada Locality, focusing on the control of disease vectors, environmental sanitation, and the disposal of hazardous, chemical, and war-related waste across the state’s seven localities.
According to Sudan News Agency, the launch event was attended by Dr. Fath El-Rahman Mohamed Al-Amin, Director General of Khartoum State Ministry of Health, the Director General of Khartoum State Police, and the Director of Civil Defense in Khartoum State. During the event, the Wali emphasized the need to control disease vectors during their aquatic and terrestrial stages to prevent their progression to flying stages, which could facilitate the transmission of diseases. He also pointed out the initiative’s unique focus on hazardous, chemical, and war-related waste as part of a broader effort to eliminate epidemic diseases.
Hamza assured that Khartoum remains a safe and livable place, expressing his administration’s dedication to restoring infrastructure, supporting treatment centers with medical equipment and medicines, and expanding hospital bed capacity. He also called on local media to actively counter misinformation and rumors.
The Director General of the Civil Defense Directorate, Major General (Police), Dr. Osman Atta Mustafa, outlined the campaign’s goal to achieve ‘zero dengue fever and zero malaria.’ The initiative will involve over 1,000 personnel equipped with 60 motorized spray pumps and 10 fogging machines to address stagnant water issues.
Ombada Executive Director Abu Al-Gasim Adam Al-Tahir expressed his full support for the Wali’s efforts to ensure security, health, and public services throughout the state. He affirmed the successes achieved in previous campaigns to protect the state’s dignity and stability, as well as the ongoing health campaign against disease vectors.
