Al-gezira: The Wali of Al-Gezira State, Al-Tahir Ibrahim Al-Khair, inaugurated new cold-chain equipment funded by UNICEF, including 30 refrigerators, four freezers, and a cooling room, at a total cost of $142,000. This initiative aims to bolster the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) in the region.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Wali expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from organizations and donors towards the state's health sector. He praised the immunization personnel for their dedication to ensuring children receive necessary vaccines, despite challenging wartime conditions.
Dr. Osama Abdel-Rahman Al-Faki, Director-General and Acting Minister of the Ministry of Health, announced plans for 2026 to focus on improving medical and health service quality. He highlighted that the EPI had been impacted by incidents of looting and plundering.
UNICEF Health Officer, Ihsan Sayid Al-Sanusi, emphasized that the new equipment will help secure vaccine safety and ensure no child misses immunization. Al-Sanusi reaffirmed UNICEF's commitment to supporting the children of Al-Gezira State.
Deputy Director of Immunization, Tagreed Yousif Al-Sunni, noted that UNICEF's contribution has been vital in enhancing the operational efficiency of the immunization administration within the state.
