UNDP Supports Gezira’s Civil Society Initiative to Combat Communicable Diseases

Gezira: An awareness workshop focused on combating communicable diseases has commenced at Al-Gezira Ministry of Health, with backing from the Global Fund and the Developmental Health Programme. The event, themed 'Towards a Strategic, Civil Society-Led Partnership,' brings together national and international health organizations, as well as Ministry of Health Directorates.

According to Sudan News Agency, the Director-General of Al-Gezira Ministry of Health, Dr. Osama Abdelrahman Ahmed Al-Faki, emphasized that the workshop aims to strengthen community partnerships and bolster official efforts. This initiative is particularly crucial in light of war-related disruptions that have resulted in treatment interruptions, loss of patient follow-up, and the migration of health workers.

Further input from Dr. Rabab Siddig, Director of the General Directorate of Preventive Medicine, highlights the significance of partnerships in enhancing community awareness. She commended the collaboration between the Communicable Diseases Control Directorate, UNDP, and the Developmental Health Programme, expressing hope for unified and practical recommendations to emerge from the workshop.

Additionally, Zain Al-Abidin Ibrahim, the State Coordinator of the Developmental Health Programme, underscored the role of civil society as a foundational element in successful disease control efforts. He pointed out that the workshop will tackle key challenges and propose viable solutions to advance the fight against communicable diseases.
