Port sudan: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) have launched a joint action plan for 2026-2028 in Port Sudan, aiming to provide support to Sudanese refugees affected by the security situation resulting from the rebellion of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia.
According to Sudan News Agency, following the signing ceremony on Monday, Dr. Abubakr, UNHCR Resident Representative, stated that the initiative seeks to provide all necessary support to displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees by integrating them into development and support projects across all states.
He added that the long-term plan is inclusive of all Sudanese, and that the initiative will extend benefits to host communities as well.
UNDP Resident Representative, Luca Rend, emphasized that the agreement is crucial for serving displaced persons within Sudan and refugees returning to their homes in Khartoum, Al Jazirah, Sennar, and other states affected by the conflict.
He highlighted that the cooperation will create numerous humanitarian and developmental opportunities and foster peaceful coexistence between displaced persons and host communities, calling on partners to contribute to ensure comprehensive support for all affected populations.
