Undersecretary of Animal Resources Calls for Better Utilization of Hides Sector

Khartoum: Undersecretary of the Ministry of Animal Resources and Fisheries, Dr. Ammar Al-Sheikh Idris, described the workshop as important, noting that hides represent a valuable resource that remains largely underutilized.

According to Sudan News Agency, Dr. Idris spoke at a workshop focused on reducing wastage of sacrificial hides. The event was organized by the ministry in cooperation with SUNA on Thursday. He stated that the ministry has developed a strategic plan aimed at modernizing the sector through improved production and processing. The undersecretary emphasized the importance of avoiding raw exports in favor of value-added manufacturing.

Dr. Idris highlighted the need for stronger coordination among relevant institutions, particularly the Ministry of Industry and Trade, to transform the hides sector into a key economic driver. This transformation is seen as essential for contributing to national economic recovery.

He also pledged to ensure the implementation of all recommendations and outcomes of the workshop to advance the hides sector in Sudan.
