Damascus: Deputy Special Envoy of the United Nations to Syria, Najat Rochdi, emphasized that Syrians require global solidarity more than ever, urging the international community to take action to assist them in recovering from the effects of the previous phase.
According to Syrian Arab News Agency, Rochdi expressed her concerns in a post on X, responding to the announcement of the suspension of US food aid to Syria. She highlighted that this issue ‘threatens devastating repercussions,’ emphasizing that Syrian lives are at risk. Rochdi cautioned that halting this aid would exacerbate the suffering and contribute to instability.
Rochdi further noted the urgency for international action, pointing out that nearly 1.5 million individuals in camps in northern Syria continue to recover from over a decade of conflict and persistent instability. These individuals now face the threat of losing essential food aid, underscoring the critical need for global solidarity at this time.
