Beirut: The United Nations expressed deep concern over the escalation of Israeli military operations in Lebanon, stressing the need to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure.
According to Qatar News Agency, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric urged all parties to respect the ceasefire and avoid further escalation. He emphasized that there is no alternative to a diplomatic solution to break the cycle of violence and achieve lasting stability on both sides of the Blue Line.
Dujarric added that US-mediated negotiations should be given a genuine opportunity to succeed. UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert continues to engage with all parties to reduce tensions, reinforce ceasefire commitments and advance practical confidence-building measures.
