Khartoum: President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, met on Wednesday with the African Union's (AU) Envoy to Sudan, Ambassador Mohamed Belaiche, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohi-Eddin Salem.
According to Sudan News Agency, Ambassador Belaiche stated that the visit is part of the African Union Commission's ongoing consultations with Sudanese leadership concerning the latest political and security developments. The discussions included plans to reopen the African Union Liaison Office in Khartoum soon.
Ambassador Belaiche brought greetings and appreciation from the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf. He mentioned that the talks focused on peace prospects in Sudan and the obstacles hindering progress, with both parties emphasizing the need to intensify efforts to overcome these challenges to achieve security and stability.
The AU envoy confirmed the Commission's dedication to reducing tensions as a prerequisite for a ceasefire, which he identified as essential for resolving the crisis. He also highlighted the importance of promoting an inclusive political process involving all stakeholders to ensure effective participation in shaping its outcomes.
Ambassador Belaiche reiterated the African Union Commission's backing for a political resolution and the initiation of an inclusive national dialogue. He stressed that state-building should be grounded in national reconciliation, mutual acceptance, and peaceful coexistence.
"The Commission will remain committed to supporting Sudan's unity and national sovereignty, while closely following the country's political, security, and humanitarian developments until security, stability, peace, and development are achieved for the Sudanese people," he stated.
