Khartoum: The Advisor to the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) for Organizational Affairs and Humanitarian Action, Lt. Gen. Al-Sadig Ismail Mahmoud, held a meeting with the UNHCR Regional Director for East Africa, the Horn of Africa, and the Great Lakes, Mamadou Diagne Balde.
According to Sudan News Agency, Mamadou Diagne Balde expressed his appreciation for the Sudanese government’s cooperation with UNHCR on refugee issues, acknowledging the challenges faced by Sudan due to the impacts of the war. The meeting focused on the situation of Sudanese refugees abroad and the potential role of UNHCR in providing assistance.
Balde highlighted that more than 4 million Sudanese have fled to neighboring countries to escape the war. He expressed gratitude towards these countries for hosting large numbers of Sudanese refugees and providing them with essential services. He emphasized that UNHCR is working in coordination with these nations to support the refugees.
Moreover, Mamadou Diagne Balde noted the voluntary return of Sudanese refugees, attributing this development to effective coordination between the government and its partners.
