Khartoum: The Acting Director General of the Sudan News Agency (SUNA), Ibrahim Musa Al-Bashir, recently held a meeting with Dr. Tunus Demirtas, the Head of the Africa Directorate at the Turkish SETA Center for Studies, and Mr. Amot, an Analyst and Specialist in African Affairs at the Center. The gathering took place at SUNA’s headquarters, with Dr. Tirab Abakar Tirab, representing the Sudanese Embassy in Turkey, also in attendance.
According to Sudan News Agency, the discussions centered around potential areas for joint cooperation between SUNA and the SETA Center for Studies. Al-Bashir expressed his appreciation for the Turkish delegation’s visit, highlighting it as a continuation of the longstanding relationship between the Sudanese and Turkish communities. He emphasized SUNA’s role as the leading news source in Sudan, despite challenges faced during the War of Dignity, where media institutions were targeted by militias.
Dr. Tunus Demirtas assured the SETA Center’s support for SUNA in its upcoming endeavors. He outlined plans for collaboration through the Turkish Communications Body of the Turkish Presidency, Anadolu Agency, and the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation. Dr. Demirtas also committed to providing technical support and organizing training sessions for SUNA staff to enhance skills in media and strategic institutional planning.
Both parties agreed on the formulation of a memorandum of understanding to facilitate cooperation and information exchange in news production. They also discussed the development of joint programs in media, tourism, and economic sectors.
