Geneva: The Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Hassan Hamid, exercised his right of response to the false allegations contained in the statement of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, specifically his reference to the Sudanese Armed Forces and claims of arbitrary executions following the liberation of Khartoum.
According to Sudan News Agency, Sudan’s Permanent Representative to Geneva stated, “While we strongly reject the presentation of such accusations based on anonymous sources and information obtained from activists, organizations, and entities loyal to the rebel militia, we expected the High Commissioner to focus on the mass executions of thousands of civilians on a wider scale and the liquidation of hundreds, indeed the genocide witnessed by everyone. Is there anyone who has not followed and witnessed the atrocities committed by the rebel militia that have shocked the human conscience across the world?”
Sudan’s Permanent Representative to Geneva added, “We are even more surprised that the High Commissioner has an office in Sudan and its doors are open to it to obtain information from its correct sources. We are also surprised that it has a specific expert who visits the country regularly and whose doors are open to him to obtain correct information from its sources.”
His Excellency further emphasized, “The Sudanese Armed Forces have a proven history and precedence in adhering to international humanitarian law and have established partnerships and numerous memoranda of understanding in this area, including with the International Committee of the Red Cross. He explained that International humanitarian law is also taught in all military colleges, institutes and academies.” He stressed that isolated, unverified incidents had been promptly investigated by a committee, and that bias and directing such false and unverified allegations against the Sudanese Armed Forces only means giving the rebel militia the green light to continue its violations and atrocities.
