Sudan’s Geneva Mission Briefs ICRC on Government Peace Initiative


Geneva: Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Hassan Hamid, met with Mirjana Spoljaric, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and senior officials on January 7, 2026, to present the Sudanese government’s peace initiative, submitted by Prime Minister Professor Kamil Al-Tayib Idris to the UN Security Council. Ambassador Hamid highlighted the initiative’s wide support, including from the UN Secretary-General, the African Union, the League of Arab States, and various countries at the bilateral level.



According to Sudan News Agency, ICRC President Spoljaric welcomed the initiative, noting that ending the conflict would allow humanitarian organizations greater access to those in need. She reaffirmed the ICRC’s commitment to neutrality and independence and expressed readiness to coordinate humanitarian efforts, support infrastructure rehabilitation, and strengthen civilian protection.
