Khartoum: Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the African Union, Ambassador Al-Zein Ibrahim Hussein, addressed the Peace and Security Council (PSC) meeting held at the African Union Informal Consultative Session, which preceded the official sitting on Sudan.
According to Sudan News Agency, Ambassador Al-Zein Ibrahim provided a detailed explanation of developments in Sudan’s humanitarian, security, and political situations. This included the formation of the Government of Hope, led by Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris, marking a significant step in implementing the roadmap announced by His Excellency President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan.
Sudan’s AU Permanent Representative urged the Council to lift the suspension of Sudan’s participation in African Union activities following the declaration of the roadmap and the establishment of the civilian government. This appeal is based on the African Solidarity Initiative, aimed at supporting Sudan in achieving comprehensive peace and reconstruction.
Ambassador Al-Zein Ibrahim also pressed the PSC to exert pressure on the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia to lift the siege of El-Fashir, withdraw from civilian areas, and stop violations against civilians in Kordofan and Darfur. He emphasized the need for the PSC to continue condemning the formation of a parallel government by the RSF militia and to facilitate Sudan’s return to the African fold by lifting its AU membership suspension.
Additionally, the Sudan Envoy to the African Union called on the PSC to encourage Sudan’s neighboring countries not to allow the transit of aid to the rebel RSF militia or its members through their airports and territories.
