Khartoum: The Director of the Sudanese Cotton Company Ltd., Dr. Abdullah Ibrahim Mohamed Nour, inspected Al-Ra’idat Agricultural Project in Agadi in Blue Nile State and reviewed the progress of the crop establishment and germination stage.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Director of the Sudanese Cotton Company stated that the purpose of the visit was to assess the level of establishment and germination at the project, affirming that germination rates were very high. He noted that this would mark a major turning point for cotton cultivation in Blue Nile State, particularly in the project of Mrs. Nour Al-Sham Haroun.
He added that Al-Ra’idat Project is a vital initiative expected to achieve high productivity and contribute significantly to the national treasury with foreign currency revenues. He stressed that Sudan possesses vast lands suitable for cotton cultivation, and affirmed that the Sudanese Cotton Company Ltd. is committed to localizing cotton production in Blue Nile State while supporting, developing, and addressing challenges related to agricultural inputs, fertilizers, and modern machinery to organize Al-Ra’idat Project.
The Director of the Sudanese Cotton Company further emphasized that the project would diversify agricultural crops, which would increase overall productivity, describing Al-Ra’idat Project as one of the most important initiatives in the region. He also commended the efforts of farmer Nour Al-Sham Haroun, the owner of Al-Ra’idat Project in Blue Nile.
For her part, Mrs. Nour Al-Sham Haroun, one of the farmers at Al-Ra’idat Project, stated that the targeted cultivated area this year is 1,000 feddans. She explained that the average production per feddan is estimated between 3 to 4 kantars of cotton, noting that the project relies on rain-fed irrigation.
