Sudan Urges Real Partnerships at Kazan Forum for Economic Growth

Kazan: The Ministry of Minerals affirmed that economic integration is no longer an option, but rather a necessity imposed by the nature of the times, given the sharing of resources, knowledge, and technology between countries.

According to Sudan News Agency, as she led the Sudanese delegation participating in the Kazan Forum in Russia, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Minerals, Hind Siddig, revealed that Sudan is in dire and urgent need to build real partnerships based on trust, shared interests, and equitable development, so that economic cooperation can be a gateway to a more stable and prosperous future. She noted that the mining sector is one of the most important economic pillars and a fertile area for cooperation in attracting investments and employing modern technologies in exploration and production.

Hind explained that Russian support for Sudan in the mining sector began in the 1970s with geological, geochemical, and geophysical mapping projects in the Red Sea. This was in addition to joint cooperation within the Sudanese-Russian Joint Ministerial Committee, which was launched in 2013. Seven meetings were held during this period, resulting in several cooperation projects, top of which is the 1:1,000,000 scale metallurgical map of Sudan, conducted between the Geological Research Corporation and the Russian company RoseGeo. This project aims to prepare a map to illustrate Sudan’s vast mineral potential.

The first and second phases were implemented, but the project was suspended due to the devastating war in Sudan.

Hind revealed the presence of several Russian companies operating in the mining sector in Sudan, including Allianz, one of the largest mining companies in Sudan and a producer. Other Russian companies are also in the process of studying and exploring.
