Khartoum: The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has publicly denounced the planned Berlin Conference, labeling it as an imposition of colonial guardianship and an infringement on Sudan's sovereignty. In a statement issued today, the Ministry expressed its strong opposition to the conference, which it claims reflects a colonial tutelage approach.According to Sudan News Agency, the Ministry criticized the lack of consultation with the Sudanese government regarding the conference, scheduled for April 15, 2026, in Berlin. The statement expressed deep dismay over the conference being organized without Sudan's involvement, describing it as cloaked in humanitarian concerns but ultimately disregarding the views and positions of the Sudanese state. This move, the Ministry asserted, represents an attempt by some Western nations to impose their agendas on sovereign states under the guise of neutrality. The statement further emphasized that Sudan and its people-considered the primary s takeholders-will not accept regional and international entities convening to make decisions about their affairs without their involvement. The Ministry warned that equating the Sudanese government with terrorist militias undermines regional and international security and provides foreign powers with a pretext to violate state sovereignty. The Ministry underscored that the real challenge is not about participation in such conferences but the underlying vision that justifies their existence. It criticized the Berlin Conference as an extension of previous forums in Paris and London, which it claimed disregarded international law and state sovereignty. Such gatherings, according to the Ministry, only embolden terrorist groups and their foreign backers. The Government of Sudan reaffirmed its commitment to peace and stability, highlighting its Sudan Peace Initiative presented to the United Nations Security Council in December 2025. The statement concluded by asserting that Sudan remains open to peace efforts that respect its sovereignty and are conducted in coordination with its government. Any initiative that fails to adhere to these principles, it warned, will be rejected outright.
