Sudan Triumphs Over Algeria on Penalty Kicks to Secure CHAN Semi-Final Berth

Khartoum: The Sudanese National Football Team reached the semi-finals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) after eliminating Algeria on penalties on Saturday evening, 4-2.

According to Sudan News Agency, the match ended in a 1-1 draw after regular time, setting the stage for a tense penalty shootout. Sudan will next face Madagascar in the semi-finals scheduled for next Tuesday.

Sudan initially took the lead with an own goal in the 47th minute, caused by Algerian defender Ayoub Ghazala’s failed attempt to clear a cross from Moussa Kant©. Algeria managed to equalize in the 73rd minute through substitute Sofiane Abba Yazid, bringing the match to a deadlock that led to the penalty shootout.

As the match concluded in a draw, both teams were forced to settle the score with penalty kicks. Sudan emerged victorious after goalkeeper Abouja showcased his skills by saving two penalty attempts.

The Falcons of Jediane executed a strategic match plan, maintaining high concentration levels that initially helped them secure the lead. However, following their goal, the team adopted a defensive stance, which allowed Algeria to level the score. Despite this, Sudan managed to uphold their unbeaten record and secure advancement through the penalty decider. Meanwhile, the Senegalese team secured a 1-0 victory over Uganda earlier in the day, earning them a spot against Morocco in the other semi-final match next Tuesday.
