Khartoum: The Early Warning Unit of the General Administration of Nile Water Affairs at the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation has issued a red alert warning of ‘dire jeopardy’ in the states of Blue Nile, Sennar, Khartoum, River Nile, and White Nile. This alert comes in response to forecasts indicating potential flooding along the Nile strip due to rising water levels in the Blue and White Nile rivers.
According to Sudan News Agency, flooding is anticipated to begin on Sunday morning, September 28, at 6:00 a.m., and could persist until 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30. The administration has cautioned that floodwaters may inundate fields and valleys, necessitating urgent precautionary measures.
In line with this, the Meteorological Authority, through its ‘Daraga’ service, has advised citizens about the grave danger of flooding. It has urged people to avoid low-lying areas, move crops, fodder, and livestock to higher ground, and ensure important documents, food, and water are stored in waterproof containers to mitigate potential losses.
The authority has also warned of the risk of electric shock resulting from floodwaters coming into contact with power lines. It has called on local authorities to execute evacuation procedures promptly once official orders are issued, in order to safeguard lives and property.
Authorities have emphasized the need for public cooperation and adherence to precautionary measures to ensure the safety of individuals and the broader community.
