Port sudan: Sudan is evaluating a proposal to establish a comprehensive medical city in collaboration with Saudi Arabia’s Bait Al-Batterjee Medical Company. The Ministry of Health convened the inaugural meeting of the committee tasked with examining the proposal from the renowned Saudi institution, part of the Saudi German Hospitals Group, on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Sudan News Agency, the meeting took place in the quarantine Hall in Port Sudan, with representatives from relevant ministries and security bodies in attendance. The focus was on a detailed presentation and discussion of the project proposal, analyzing it from technical, financial, legal, administrative, investment, and security perspectives.
Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, highlighted the project’s potential to transform Sudan’s health sector. He noted that the proposed medical city would centralize medical services, foster medical tourism, and enhance healthcare quality. It is expected to create employment and training opportunities for local professionals. Dr. Ibrahim emphasized that the strong ties between Sudan and Saudi Arabia are foundational to the project’s development, signifying Saudi Arabia’s continued support in revitalizing Sudan’s health sector and improving its investment climate.
The meeting concluded with the committee endorsing the project in principle, following an exhaustive review of the proposal in collaboration with the company. The committee agreed on the framework for construction and operation, designating Khartoum State as the location for the main headquarters, with additional branches planned in other states. They committed to facilitating all necessary measures to ensure the project’s successful implementation and longevity.
