Khartoum: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Ali Youssef Ahmed Al-Sharif, is set to embark on an official visit to Tehran on Sunday at the invitation of Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Seyed Abbas Araghchi. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and international issues.
According to Sudan News Agency, Sudan’s Ambassador to Iran, Abdulaziz Hassan Salih, stated that during the visit, Dr. Al-Sharif will meet with his Iranian counterpart and other officials to update the Iranian government on developments in Sudan. A key component of the visit will be the meeting of the Political Consultation Committee, marking the first such engagement since diplomatic relations resumed between the two nations in June 2024.
Ambassador Salih noted that discussions will address mutual concerns on both bilateral and global levels. A memorandum of understanding will be signed to establish the Political Consultation Committee, highlighting the significance of diplomatic and political coordination on various matters.
The period following the resumption of diplomatic ties has witnessed economic activities, such as the visit by Sudan’s Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim, to Tehran last November. Additionally, the Iranian Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance visited Portsudan on February 13.
The Sudanese ambassador further mentioned that the Joint Ministerial Committee meetings are anticipated to occur in mid-2025 in Tehran, co-chaired by Sudan’s Minister of Finance and Iran’s Minister of Agriculture. Sudan has expressed openness to Iranian investments and their role in the country’s reconstruction and development in the post-war era.
