Jakarta: The National Medicines and Poisons Board (NMPB) and the Indonesian Food and Drug Administration (BPOM) have signed a groundbreaking memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta. This significant agreement marks a new chapter in Sudanese-Indonesian relations, focusing on crucial health issues. Dr. Yassir Mohammed Ali, the Sudan Ambassador to Indonesia, represented the NMPB, while Professor Taruna Iqrar signed on behalf of the Indonesian side.
According to Sudan News Agency, this MoU is the first of its kind between the two nations, establishing a framework for collaboration on various technical matters concerning pharmaceuticals and medical products. Key aspects of the agreement include the regulation of pharmaceuticals, food supplements, and cosmetics. The MoU allows for the approval of the Indonesian Food and Drug Administration’s registration by the National Medicines and Poisons Board, streamlining the process for Indonesian medicines to enter the Sudanese market without requiring re-registration.
The agreement further enhances cooperation by facilitating the exchange of pharmaceutical information, supporting regulatory accreditation, and offering capacity-building initiatives through technical assistance, workshops, and training. Additionally, the MoU outlines the sharing of Good Manufacturing Practice inspection results and safety alerts for new ingredients. It also emphasizes the importance of high-level visits to monitor and evaluate the MoU’s implementation, address emerging regulatory challenges, and explore further opportunities for collaboration.
