Khartoum: Sudan Ambassador to Austria Magdi Ahmed Mufaddal has called upon the European Union to apply pressure on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and their supporters, notably the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to cease their military, logistical, and political backing of the rebels.
According to Sudan News Agency, Ambassador Mufaddal's appeal came during a meeting with Petra Bayr, Chair of the Austrian Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee, on February 9. He expressed Sudan's firm opposition to any involvement by the UAE in peace negotiations within the country.
In the meeting, the ambassador highlighted significant developments in Sudan, including the return of over four million internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees since January 2025. He noted the government's re-establishment in Khartoum and the commencement of domestic flights between Port Sudan and Khartoum International Airport.
Furthermore, Mufaddal informed that the Government of Sudan has put forward a peace proposal to the UN Security Council. Despite these efforts, the RSF militia continues to commit severe offenses, including war crimes and crimes against humanity, with the aid of foreign mercenaries.
He also expressed the aspiration that future Austrian humanitarian contributions would focus on recovery and the revitalization of irrigated agricultural projects in Sudan.
