State Minister of Finance Engages with Qatari Counterpart on Economic Cooperation

Baku: State Minister at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, Mohamed Nour Abdel Daim, engaged in discussions with Qatar's Minister of Finance, Ali bin Ahmed Al-Kuwari, to enhance financial and investment cooperation between Sudan and Qatar. These discussions took place on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the Islamic Development Bank Group in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan, Amina Mirghani Ali Al-Toum, also attended the meeting.

According to Sudan News Agency, the meeting focused on Sudan's debt situation and efforts to restructure financial obligations to support economic stability. This move aims to facilitate Sudan's reintegration into the regional and international financial systems. Both ministers explored strategies to encourage the return of Qatari investments to Sudan and the reactivation of Qatari financial institutions' activities, including the potential resumption of operations by Qatar National Bank to boost financing and investment in productive and service sectors.

The dialogue highlighted the significance of broadening financial and investment cooperation and establishing direct financing channels for priority projects, especially in infrastructure, energy, and basic services. These initiatives are crucial for Sudan's reconstruction and economic recovery efforts. Furthermore, the ministers emphasized the need for coordinated positions within international and regional financing institutions to support Sudan, easing access to necessary financing for its economic and reform programs to foster stability and sustainable development.
