Red sea state: Spinal Surgery Week for Correcting Deformities has been inaugurated at Queens Care Hospital in Port Sudan, aiming to provide advanced treatment locally and reduce the burden on patients. The event was attended by the Wali of Red Sea State, Director General of the Health Sector Dr. Ahlam Abdel-Rasoul, and other senior health officials.
According to Sudan News Agency, Dr. Ahlam Abdel-Rasoul stated that the initiative is an example of effective social responsibility and a public-private partnership. She announced the successful completion of the initial spinal correction surgery and highlighted the program's target of 20 complex, high-cost procedures for citizens, despite the country's challenging conditions.
Consultant orthopaedic and spine surgeon Dr. Ayman Ali Al-Tayib elaborated on the advanced nature of the surgeries, which address spinal curvature and torsion. He emphasized the collaboration between private hospitals and the public sector to benefit the community.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Tayib, another consultant orthopaedic and spine surgeon, noted that such surgeries were once common across the nation before the war but have since declined. He confirmed the resumption of these procedures with high efficiency and a 100% success rate, focusing on localizing the specialty to lessen patient suffering.
Dr. Sami Sir Al-Khatim, Chairman of Queens Care Hospital, concluded by stating that the surgical week is a free initiative conducted with the Sudanese Spine Specialists Association. He highlighted its dual objectives: offering high-quality care locally and training resident doctors to enhance national capacity, all while maintaining the highest medical standards.
