Khartoum: The Seminar on Enhancing Social Peace in Sudan, focusing on "Challenges and Future Vision," has successfully concluded its proceedings, leading to the issuance of several critical recommendations aimed at fostering social harmony within the nation.
According to Sudan News Agency, the recommendations were presented by Alia Hassan Abouna, the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Social Peace. The seminar underscored the importance of promoting dialogue and establishing communication bridges among various societal components. A notable suggestion was the formation of a "Council of Sudanese Elders" with the goal of augmenting social peace across the country.
Furthermore, the seminar's recommendations highlighted the need for enhanced regional and international cooperation to facilitate the exchange of expertise and to learn from similar experiences globally. Additional recommendations included the activation of rapid intervention mechanisms for conflict resolution and initiatives to safeguard rights and freedoms, particularly focusing on the protection and provision of safe environments for children and youth.
In a bid to establish lasting peace, the recommendations called for the adoption of a comprehensive national project involving both the state and society. This project would focus on community peace by activating mechanisms of transitional justice, fostering dialogue, and promoting national reconciliation without exclusion. Strengthening the legal and institutional roles of native administration and civil society organizations, along with the economic and political empowerment of youth and women as peacemakers, were also emphasized.
The seminar further stressed the importance of achieving balanced development and fair resource distribution among regions and states. It called for legislative measures and responsible media to control hate speech. Additionally, the seminar underscored the necessity of protecting shared borders and maintaining national unity to prevent any cross-border terrorist or sabotage activities.
The recommendations proposed expanding the powers of the Social Peace Council to operate freely in establishing social peace. They also encouraged the continuation of efforts to raise community awareness regarding the significance of social peace for the stability of Sudan. Moreover, the recommendations advocated for the collective management of Sudanese society, prioritizing the activation of the rule of law.
