RSF Militia Drone Attack on Merowe Power Station Causes Widespread Power Outage

Khartoum: The Sudan Electricity Company’s Media Coordination Council announced that Merowe power station was targeted by drones at dawn on Saturday, April 5, 2025. The attack resulted in significant damage to the transformer supplying the Northern State, causing a widespread power outage in the region.

According to Sudan News Agency, the council’s statement emphasized that this assault on the power infrastructure is not an isolated incident but part of a series of repeated attacks on power stations. These actions are having a significant impact on the services provided to citizens, notably in the Northern State. The council warned that the incident could lead to further disruptions in the electricity grid, potentially affecting electricity supplies in several other states as well.

In response to the crisis, the Media Coordination Council confirmed that an integrated technical team has been dispatched to assess the damage, initiate repair work, and restore power to the affected areas as swiftly as possible.
