Red Sea Wali: Arba’at Model Farms a Successful Initiative to Boost Local Production

Khartoum: Wali of Red Sea State Lieutenant General Mustafa Mohamed Noor affirmed that the Reconstruction and Community Resilience Support Program implemented by the United Nations Development Programme in the Arba'at area of Al-Qanab and Al-Olib localities has contributed effectively to improving livelihoods and strengthening community stability, particularly in water provision and agricultural support.According to Sudan News Agency, the Wali praised the program's significant role, especially in supporting the agricultural sector, during a Friday visit with a UNDP delegation. He noted that the area had received extensive interventions from international, regional, and local organizations following the previous collapse of a dam.He highlighted that UNDP, in cooperation with the Arba'at Rural Development Association, implemented a project to select five model farms for home-based agriculture. These farms were supported with solar power systems, well rehabilitation, provision of seeds and seedlings, and over all improvements to the local agricultural environment.He added that the initiative has resulted in model farms benefiting the local population, particularly rural women, and emphasized that the project represents a successful model for promoting local production.The Wali expressed his gratitude to UNDP for its efforts and expressed hope that the initiative could be replicated in other areas to support citizens and improve living conditions.For his part, UNDP Assistant Director-General Xu Haoliang stated that UNDP, in collaboration with the state government and relevant bodies, had rehabilitated several wells using solar energy and implemented other development projects aimed at strengthening community resilience.He said the achievements represent a successful model of partnership between local communities, government authorities, and international organizations, stressing that joint efforts will contribute to stability and support the local economy.
