Marengan: Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Al-Tayib Idris emphasized during his visit to the ginneries, workshops, and seed multiplication stores of the Gezira Scheme that revitalizing the scheme is crucial for the resurgence of the national economy. He assured the government’s commitment to overcoming the challenges faced by the project.
According to Sudan News Agency, Wali (Governor) of Gezira State Al-Tahir Ibrahim Al-Khair expressed his administration’s resolve to rejuvenate the scheme. He highlighted its significance as a cornerstone for the national economy and its role as a primary defense in securing Sudan’s food supply.
Director General of Gezira Scheme Ginneries, Badr Al-Din Juma Hamad, disclosed that the ginneries have suffered losses totaling 120 million US dollars across 12 units within the project. He emphasized the urgent need for rehabilitation and modernization to address these financial challenges.
