Khartoum: Prime Minister Professor Kamil Idris addressed the First Hope Forum on Mining Issues - Challenges and Solutions on Saturday, emphasizing the critical need for coordination between federal and state levels to advance the mining sector. The event, themed 'Towards Responsible Mining and Balanced, Sustainable Development,' gathered ministers, state walis, regional governors, and officials from relevant institutions to discuss strategic approaches for the evolution of the mining industry.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Prime Minister underscored the forum's strategic significance, outlining its potential to catalyze a transformative shift in the national economy. He highlighted the necessity for aligning mining-related policies, legislation, and technical measures between the federal government and states. Idris also emphasized the importance of regulating artisanal mining to safeguard the interests of the state, citizens, miners, and the environment from the inherent risks of traditional mining practices.
The Prime Minister urged for an increased focus on geological surveying projects to attract both domestic and foreign investment, thereby bolstering economic growth. He stressed that corporate social responsibility should be authentic and effective, aligning with the goals of the state and society.
Concluding the forum, Idris received the National Document on Mining Issues - First Hope Forum, stressing the importance of developing actionable recommendations with well-defined timelines. He proposed that the forum should become an annual event to evaluate progress and ensure the consistent advancement of Sudan's mining sector.
