Tawila: The Patient Helping Fund (PHF) – North Darfur Office – with support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), has launched projects to protect and empower internally displaced (ID) women in the areas of Daba Nayra and Tawila Al-Omda, aimed at providing safe spaces for women and girls.
According to Sudan News Agency, these projects come in response to the humanitarian emergency and dire conditions facing displaced women who fled the ongoing conflict in El-Fashir and its outskirts between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which led to the displacement of large numbers of women and children to Tawila Locality west of El-Fashir.
PHF State Director Dafallah Al-Fatih Al-Arki affirmed that the organization has carried out a number of activities, including the establishment of women’s centers in Daba Nayra and Tawila Al-Omda to provide safe spaces for women and girls, organizing training workshops on combating gender-based violence and sexual exploitation, psychological support, personal hygiene, distribution of dignity kits to women and girls of reproductive age, and training on production means and life skills.
In a statement to SUNA on Saturday, Al-Arki revealed that the activities and programs implemented by the organization yielded encouraging results, such as enhancing the capacities of women and girls, developing their skills to adapt and cope with emergencies and the current situation. He added that the ‘Miyarem (Noble Women) Bazaar’ organized in Tawila Locality showcased the creative and organizational abilities of women and girls, turning these spaces into areas of reassurance, creativity, and safe havens that restore confidence in life. The event displayed woven artworks rooted in heritage and cultural diversity, sending a message to the world that displaced women face hardship with hope, transform pain into strength, and build new lives from displacement.
Al-Arki reiterated the organization’s commitment to continue implementing projects to protect and empower displaced women to ensure the benefit reaches the targeted groups, expressing gratitude and appreciation to UNFPA for its generous support that has enabled the organization to implement its programs.
It is worth noting that these projects aim to provide support and assistance to displaced women and girls, enhance their capacities, and empower them to face challenges while building safer and more stable communities for women and girls.
