Al-obeid: The Ministry of Health and Social Development in North Kordofan State commemorated World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day at the Government Secretariat Hall. The event was organized under the theme "With Unity and Work, We Eradicate Neglected Tropical Diseases," and was attended by the Wali of North Kordofan, the Federal Minister of Health, various state government officials, the Security Committee, a federal delegation, and representatives from different states.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Wali highlighted the programme's role in supporting health projects, fortifying the health system, and improving operational coordination. He underscored the significance of partnerships, announcing the state's readiness to establish an integrated health system in collaboration with the private sector, backed by the state government. Al-Obeid, a key industrial hub, has already implemented a comprehensive health sector matrix that includes pharmaceutical manufacturing, health centers, and institutions.
Dr. Razan Othman, Director of the National Programme for Neglected Tropical Diseases and representative of the Federal Ministry of Health, emphasized that the celebration aims to increase awareness of these diseases and their treatment methods. She praised North Kordofan for its role in receiving patients from other states and outlined the ministry's strategy for eliminating neglected tropical diseases through collaborative programmes. The state's health ministry and partners were also commended for their active role in controlling these diseases.
Dr. Iman Malik, Acting Minister of Health and Social Development in North Kordofan State, highlighted the serious impact of neglected tropical diseases on public health. She stressed the importance of consistently observing this day to support control efforts and pointed out ongoing initiatives in awareness, health education, and community engagement. Dr. Malik called for translating the celebration's recommendations into a strategic programme for disease control and elimination.
Dr. Attiya Abdullah, representing partner organizations, expressed their commitment to working alongside the government. He described North Kordofan as a model for combating neglected tropical diseases through government support and coordinated efforts.
