Khartoum: Minister of Justice, Dr. Abdullah Dirif, met with Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. (Police) Babiker Samra, to discuss critical legal conditions within Khartoum State.
According to Sudan News Agency, the meeting was described as constructive, focusing on joint issues related to the enforcement and rule of law. Urgent matters related to law enforcement were also a key topic of discussion. Dr. Dirif acknowledged the significant efforts undertaken by the Ministry of Interior, highlighting that all police stations in Khartoum State are functioning effectively and have been equipped with the necessary resources to enforce the law. He emphasized that the deployment of police across Khartoum State is commendable and has a meaningful impact on its citizens.
Dr. Dirif further mentioned the Ministry of Justice’s commitment to reviewing legislation related to police operations to ensure they can perform their duties comprehensively, including providing immunity for police officers during duty.
Additionally, the Minister of Justice stressed the importance of establishing the Constitutional Court to reduce the backlog of death row inmates by processing their applications efficiently.
The Minister of Interior expressed appreciation for the Ministry of Justice’s keen interest in legal matters, particularly those concerning police responsibilities and legal procedures. He noted that discussions have been held regarding the maintenance and treatment of individuals awaiting investigation and trial, involving the Public Prosecution, Judiciary, and Ministry of Finance, with resolutions expected soon.
Lastly, Lt. Gen. Samra commended the Ministry of Justice for its efforts in organizing the legal framework and addressing procedural issues that necessitate amendments in existing laws.
