Khartoum: Minister of Justice Dr. Abdallah Dirif reaffirmed the government's commitment to human rights issues and underscored the importance of coordination and cooperation with the National Human Rights Commission. The Commission is recognized as the country's independent national mechanism mandated with protecting and promoting human rights, supporting the rule of law, consolidating the values of justice, and safeguarding rights and freedoms.
According to Sudan News Agency, the remarks came during a meeting held at his office on Tuesday with a delegation from the National Human Rights Commission. The delegation was headed by the Chairman of the Commission, Jumaa Al-Wakil, and included Secretary-General Abdel-Moneim Al-Zubair Ali and a commissioner member, Dr. Bashir Mohamed Bashir. During the meeting, the Chairman briefed the Minister on the current human rights situation in the country. He outlined the Commission's efforts in monitoring violations, receiving complaints, and documenting abuses, noting the major challenges confronting its work under the exceptional conditions facing the country.
The discussions also addressed coordination and consultation on the overall human rights situation in Sudan, especially in light of the unprecedented violations committed by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia against civilians. The meeting further reviewed developments related to human rights conditions nationwide and examined the challenges associated with protecting civilians and the most vulnerable groups affected by the war, including women, children, elderlies, and persons with disabilities.
Both parties emphasized the importance of strengthening institutional coordination between the Commission and various state institutions to support national efforts aimed at protecting human rights. They advocated for victims and discussed ways to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance to internally displaced persons (IDPs) and war-affected communities.
