Khartoum: Minister of Health, Professor Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, met on Thursday in his office in Khartoum with a delegation from the Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), an organ of the African Union. The meeting was attended by the Emergency and Epidemic Control Directorate and a representative of the World Health Organization (WHO).
According to Sudan News Agency, discussions focused on strengthening regional health cooperation, particularly in light of the health challenges facing Sudan. The meeting also reviewed ways to support Sudan in the field of public health and to exchange expertise in building national capacities to improve epidemic response.
The Minister expressed appreciation for the support provided by Africa CDC and directed that assistance be aligned with Sudan’s health priorities. For their part, the Africa CDC delegation commended the Ministry’s efforts in addressing health crises and reaffirmed the center’s readiness to provide technical and logistical support to enhance the preparedness of the national health system.
The two sides agreed on practical steps for future cooperation, including continuous coordination and communication, and assistance to the health sector in the coming period amounting to eight tons of medical equipment and medicines to arrive within days. The delegation also announced a forthcoming visit next month for a more comprehensive assessment of the health situation.
Both sides emphasized the importance of regular health assessments and clear definition of partners’ roles to ensure effective coordination among all concerned institutions, thereby improving the quality of health services in Sudan. The meeting reflects Sudan’s commitment to strengthening continental health cooperation and fostering strategic partnerships that contribute to the sustainability of the national health system. This visit also paves the way for upcoming missions from Africa CDC to Sudan to further support the country’s health sector.
