Cairo: Minister of Energy Eng. Al-Mutassim Ibrahim Ahmed, during his visit to Egypt, engaged in discussions with El-Sewedy Group’s Director Ahmed El-Sewedy and Chairman Eng. Walid El-Deeb to resume the company’s transformer manufacturing activities in Sudan.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Minister emphasized the strong ties between Sudan and Egypt, noting the significance of El-Sewedy Group’s investments. These investments are crucial for Sudan, especially given the widespread destruction and theft of transformers in the country. The Minister called on the company to intensify efforts to address Sudan’s urgent transformer needs, highlighting that the Ministry prioritizes reconstruction efforts at this stage.
Minister Ahmed disclosed that Khartoum State alone lost over 14,000 transformers due to actions by the Dagalo family militia, with over 60,000 transformers lost nationwide due to the war.
Ahmed El-Sewedy expressed the company’s readiness to collaborate with Sudan, affirming their commitment to supplying essential transformers for rebuilding Khartoum State, thereby aiding the return of citizens to their homes and workplaces.
Walid El-Deeb added that El-Sewedy Group has commenced the rehabilitation of its factory in Sudan, which is expected to restart operations soon to focus on the maintenance and manufacturing of distribution transformers.
The Minister’s visit underscores the Ministry’s goal to localize transformer manufacturing in Sudan, where El-Sewedy Company operates the largest transformer factory in collaboration with the Sudanese Electricity Company.
