Khartoum: Minister of Energy, Engineer and Advisor Al-Mutassim Ibrahim Ahmed, discussed the resumption of the second phase of the Klaneeb Power Project in Port Sudan. The meeting, held on Sunday, was attended by a delegation from the Turkish power companies, which operate the power station following years of inactivity.
According to Sudan News Agency, the delegation was led by the Turkish Ambassador to Sudan. Discussions focused on the importance of accelerating work on the project due to its strategic significance for the region and the country, particularly given the current national challenges.
Minister Al-Mutassim affirmed the removal of obstacles, reiterating the government’s support for the project. He highlighted arrangements for financing with the African Export-Import Bank during his recent visit to Cairo, stressing the need to expedite efforts to ensure timely completion and the project’s successful outcomes.
For his part, the Turkish Ambassador praised the strong Sudanese-Turkish relations, confirming Turkey’s readiness to cooperate in the energy sector. He noted that Turkey has numerous international companies specialized in energy that can assist Sudan in rebuilding infrastructure affected by the war. He emphasized that the electricity sector remains strategic, particularly at this critical stage for Sudan.
The meeting was also attended by the Director-General of the Sudan Electricity Company, the Director of the National Electricity Company, and several senior officials from the electricity sector.
