Port Sudan: The Governor of Darfur Region, Minni Arko Minawi, has drawn attention to the catastrophic and rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation in Zamzam internally displaced persons (IDPs) camp, El-Fashir city, Naivasha and Al-Salam camps, and Um Kadada Locality, in North Darfur State.
According to Sudan News Agency, this urgent appeal was made in a letter sent to the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres in New York. The appeal focuses on the humanitarian crisis in Zamzam IDP camp and El-Fashir, which has been exacerbated by a recent attack launched by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia on Zamzam IDP camp on April 12.
In his letter, Minawi demanded the immediate release of abducted women and children. He also called for the unimpeded transport of food and medical supplies from the outskirts of El-Fashir to the affected populations inside the city and to the IDP camps. Additionally, he urged for the immediate lifting of the siege of El-Fashir to facilitate relief efforts.
Minawi affirmed the government’s commitment to international humanitarian law and welcomed the participation of UN agencies in delivering life-saving aid by land and air. He declared readiness to provide any necessary facilities or protection to ensure that aid reaches those in need effectively.
