Khartoum: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has condemned the recent attack on the Merowe Dam power plant by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia as a clear terrorist act and a full-fledged war crime. The assault, executed using suicide drones, resulted in a significant disruption of electricity supply across large regions of the country.
According to Sudan News Agency, the MFA’s press statement emphasized that the attack is part of a broader strategy by the militia to undermine national stability and destroy critical infrastructure, including service, educational, and cultural institutions. The ministry accused the RSF of enacting a genocidal plan with the assistance of regional supporters.
The statement highlighted the detrimental effects of targeting electricity services, noting the repercussions on essential services such as water, health, education, and the livelihoods of citizens. The MFA also drew attention to a recent massacre by the militia in Zamzam camp, which resulted in the deaths of 16 internally displaced persons (IDPs), as well as another attack in the village of Om Meleiha in Al-Hasahisa, where 11 civilians were killed.
The Foreign Ministry urged the international community to condemn these acts and apply pressure on the militia’s sponsors to stop providing it with weapons and mercenaries, which facilitate the execution of its genocidal agenda.
