Khartoum: The Ombada Locality saw the commencement of a significant environmental sanitation and vector control campaign, organized by the Khartoum State government with active involvement from civil society organizations and local citizens. This initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance recovery and restore essential services for the population.
According to Sudan News Agency, the launch, which took place on Tuesday, was attended by notable figures including Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Ahmed Osman Hamza, the Wali (governor) of Khartoum State, and Dr. Fath Al-Rahman Mohamed Al-Amin, Khartoum State’s Acting Minister of Health. During the event, speakers emphasized the critical role of collective community efforts in ensuring a healthy and safe environment.
Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim emphasized that the campaign signifies a new phase in the effort to return life to normal in Khartoum. He acknowledged the resilience of medical personnel and announced a financial support package of 50 million Sudanese pounds for the campaign, underscoring the ongoing need for vector control and environmental services.
Wali Ahmed Osman Hamza highlighted the collective responsibility for maintaining cleanliness and environmental health, noting that the war had disrupted routine operations. He credited the efforts of the federal and state health ministries and their partners for curbing the spread of cholera. Hamza expressed optimism that this year would see an end to citizens’ struggles with autumn’s effects, applauding all contributors to the campaign.
The Undersecretary also stressed the importance of early preparation for the autumn season and improving water and food safety, citing a significant reduction in cholera cases due to the cooperative efforts of the government, community, and organizations.
The Executive Director of Ombada Locality acknowledged the challenges faced and praised the dedication of health workers operating under challenging conditions.
