Land Preparations Initiate for New Agricultural Season at Al-Gezira Scheme

Al-Gezira: Land preparations have commenced in the Al-Gezira Scheme for the upcoming agricultural season, as confirmed by the Governor of the Gezira Scheme, Engineer Ibrahim Mustafa Ali. During a meeting held on Wednesday with seed production farmers’ leaderships at Al-Komor and Darwish Inspections in the Middle Division, the Governor emphasized the initiation of land preparation activities utilizing project management machinery. He also discussed a proposal to create a fund aimed at addressing irrigation challenges, with representation from farmers and various relevant authorities.

According to Sudan News Agency, the Governor announced that Mahjoub Sons Company has expressed interest in cultivating soybeans for seed production at Nour Al-Huda, Al-Komor, and Darwish Inspections. Additionally, Irada Company, in collaboration with the Bank of Khartoum, is set to finance 100,000 acres for the cultivation of sorghum, soybeans, and cotton within the project. This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing the agricultural output of the region.

In his remarks, the Deputy Agricultural Director of the Al-Gezira Scheme urged farmers to maintain clean fields and strictly follow the agricultural cycle to ensure successful crop production. The leaderships of farmers at Al-Komor and Darwish inspections have expressed their readiness to provide adequate guarantees to financing institutions and are committed to adopting a collective approach in planting at the farm level, ensuring efficient and effective farming practices.
