Khartoum: The Wali (governor) of Khartoum State, Ahmed Osman Hamza, has urged international organizations to bring global attention to the crimes committed by the terrorist militia against defenseless civilians in the Jamoa’iya areas south of Omdurman and the Zamzam camp for displaced persons (IDPs) west of El-Fashir.
According to Sudan News Agency, this call was made during a meeting with a delegation from the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). The meeting was attended by the Director General of the Ministry of Social Development, Siddiq Ferini; the Director General of the Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism, Al-Tayib Saad Al-Din; the Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid, Khalid Abdel-Rahim; and Brig. Gen. Mohamed Musa, a representative of the Khartoum State Security Body.
The Wali of Khartoum State expressed gratitude to the WFP delegation, acknowledging their long-standing presence in Sudan and their efforts to assist citizens during the ongoing conflict. He emphasized that the militia’s destruction of essential service infrastructure necessitates additional intervention for rebuilding efforts.
The Head of the World Food Programme delegation conveyed appreciation for the support provided to the programme in executing its mission. He outlined the purpose of the visit, which was to engage with state officials and identify priorities. The programme aims to deliver emergency humanitarian assistance to one million citizens in Khartoum State, addressing a substantial demographic.
He further explained that their support will extend beyond humanitarian aid, encompassing initiatives to enable citizens to resume normal activities through home reconstruction, school feeding, and direct cash assistance.
Siddiq Ferini, the Director General of the Ministry of Social Development, noted that WFP adheres to international standards in aid distribution, although there remains a segment of the population that is yet to receive support, highlighting the need for additional psychological and social assistance.
Khalid Abdel-Rahim, the Humanitarian Aid Commissioner, discussed the contributions made by the programme and anticipated that it would further contribute upon resuming operations in Khartoum, gaining a deeper understanding of the citizens’ needs.
