Khartoum: The Wali (governor) of Khartoum State, Ahmed Osman Hamza, launched a medical support campaign targeting the Omdurman, Ombada, and Karari Localities, marking the event at the Square of Ombada 10th District on Tuesday morning. The campaign saw the participation of Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, the Undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, and the Director-General of Khartoum State’s Ministry of Health.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Wali emphasized that this campaign is part of comprehensive efforts by the state government to enhance the healthcare system and address the damage caused to health facilities during the recent conflict. He acknowledged the critical role played by the Federal Ministry of Health in facilitating the reopening of hospitals and health centers and providing essential medicines and medical equipment, which have helped ease the hardships faced by citizens.
Hamza urged local health administrations to maintain their efforts to clear war debris from neighborhoods and commercial zones, and to intensify disease prevention measures to ensure a safe and healthy environment for residents returning to these areas.
Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, the Federal Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, commended the dedication of medical staff in Khartoum State, who have continued to deliver healthcare services despite challenging conditions. He highlighted the campaign’s vital role in promoting public health and addressing epidemic causes, especially in areas that have experienced severe environmental degradation due to pollution and exposed bodies.
Dr. Haitham reaffirmed the Federal Ministry’s commitment to fully supporting the campaign’s health and humanitarian goals.
Dr. Fath Al-Rahman Mohamed Al-Amin, Director General of Khartoum State’s Ministry of Health, reported a decline in the cholera outbreak, with infections reduced to 42 cases as of Monday. He noted that this is the state’s second campaign, with plans for a third campaign already in progress. The upcoming initiative will extend to other localities in collaboration with the Civil Support Committee of the Popular Resistance and several voluntary organizations.
