Nairobi: The Kenyan government’s decision to continue supporting the Janjaweed RSF militia and harbor its activities has been met with fierce criticism from the international community. This move, seen as a disregard for international legitimacy and the African Union Peace and Security Council (AU-PSC), has raised significant concerns about regional stability.
According to Sudan News Agency, the RSF militia has intensified its campaign of genocide against specific ethnic groups in Darfur, with the ongoing attack on the Zamzam camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs) being a stark example. This assault has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of civilians, including women and children, as the militia continues to target vital civilian facilities across Sudan. Despite these atrocities, Kenya is reportedly planning to host a second conference for the RSF terrorist militia and its affiliates, following a similar meeting sponsored by the Kenyan presidency in February that aimed to establish a “parallel government” for the militia.
The global community has roundly condemned Kenya’s actions. The United Nations Security Council has expressed grave concerns over the potential of these actions to exacerbate the conflict in Sudan, threatening its national unity and territorial integrity. The African Union Peace and Security Council also unequivocally condemned Kenya’s support for the militia in a press statement dated March 11, 2025, urging AU member states and the international community to withhold any assistance from groups attempting to form a parallel government in Sudan.
The Kenyan government’s actions are seen as a significant threat to regional security, the sovereignty of African nations, and social stability across the continent. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on the international community to denounce this irresponsible behavior, which violates international law, the UN Charter, and the Constitutive Act of the African Union.
