Kassala: The acting Wali (governor) of Kassala State, Major General (retired) Al-Sadig Mohamed Al-Azrag, has been briefed on Kassala University’s arrangements for holding the first international conference on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in reconstruction, building, and sustainable development.
According to Sudan News Agency, the conference, organized by the university through the Computer and Information Technology Center, will take place from September 23rd to 25th, in collaboration with the global company Mashareb. The conference will be held under the theme “From Destruction to Reconstruction: Sustainable Artificial Intelligence.” Scientists and professors from inside and outside Sudan will participate, along with a number of experts who will share their experiences.
This announcement came during a meeting with a university delegation headed by Professor Amani Abdel-Ma’rouf Bashir, the University’s Vice-Chancellor. The delegation provided a comprehensive overview of the university’s academic progress, especially after the evacuation of incoming students from the dormitories, which has contributed to the 100% regularity of studies.
The Vice-Chancellor explained that the university had been able to address the batches accumulation resulting from natural and war-related circumstances. She provided insight into the university’s new programs and faculties, including upgrading the Medical Laboratory Sciences program at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences to the College of Laboratory Sciences and transforming the Basic Education program into the College of Basic Education. She also added programs at the diploma, bachelor’s, and postgraduate levels.
Professor Amani added that the university had also been able to complete the curriculum of 89 vital faculties, including the College of Pharmacy, which has completed its studies up to the Faculty Council level. She stated that the university seeks to expand into the various localities of the state so that these localities will have university faculties.
For his part, Dr. Ghafari Hassan Haj Hamad, Director of the University’s Computer and Information Center, expressed his hope that the conference would produce positive recommendations, noting that it represents an important opportunity to leverage artificial intelligence applications and their relationship to various fields of knowledge, harnessing them in planning and nation-building, especially in light of the effects of war.
He called on young researchers to participate in the conference with their projects and innovations, presenting them to the scientific committee for evaluation and awarding prizes to outstanding projects. He noted the opportunities the conference could provide, the contribution of artificial intelligence to various projects and research, and its impact on sustainable development in the fields of health, education, infrastructure, agriculture, and medicine.
