Khartoum: Minister of Justice, Dr. Abdallah Dirif, received the National Initiative Document on Good Governance and the Rule of Law, prepared by retired advisors of the Ministry of Justice, at his office on Sunday. The meeting was attended by the Ministry’s Undersecretary, Howaida Ali Awad Al-Karim.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Minister praised the initiative and the efforts invested in developing a vision to strengthen the rule of law. He emphasized the importance of such initiatives, especially given the current challenges facing the country, which necessitate solidarity and collective cooperation.
Dr. Dirif also mentioned that a specialized committee has been formed to review urgent legal amendments. Additionally, a higher committee has been established to examine all federal and state legislations to ensure they align with constitutional principles and international agreements ratified by Sudan.
Former Attorney General Salah Abdallah, leading the Retirees’ Group, expressed gratitude to the Minister for this opportunity, highlighting that the group has deliberated and reached a unified vision on the initiative.
The document stresses the importance of good governance in ensuring the efficient use of state resources for the people’s benefit through transparency, equality, efficiency, and the rule of law. It highlights the need for effective management across state institutions, the private sector, and civil society, asserting that adherence to good governance principles will enhance institutional performance and strengthen governance, particularly in the post-war context.
Moreover, the document calls for the establishment of independent commissions focused on anti-corruption, legal reform, civil service reform, and transitional justice.
