Khartoum: Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Assistant Commander-in-Chief Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Jabir, met with the Attorney General Al-Fatih Tayfour in his office on Sunday. The meeting focused on reviewing the Public Prosecution’s performance and its 2024 report, along with discussions on several legislative proposals including the draft amendment to the Constitutional Court Act, a bill on compensation for war-affected individuals, and a bill on cooperation in criminal matters.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Attorney General revealed that the 2024 report of the Public Prosecution encompasses several high-profile lawsuits. This includes the case concerning the killing of Governor Khamis Abkar, with the trial set to commence on April 20. Additionally, lawsuits related to attacks on the cities of El-Geneina, Ardamata, and Khartoum, as well as actions involving militia’s political partners, are included in the report.
The Attorney General also briefed TSC Member Jabir on the outcomes of his recent visits, both external and internal, to the states of Sennar, White Nile, Al-Gezira, and Khartoum. These visits were aimed at assessing the deployment levels of police stations and public prosecution offices across these regions.
In his statement, the Attorney General confirmed that the administrative and criminal operations of the Public Prosecution are advancing steadily, with no tolerance for impunity. He urged citizens to report to the Public Prosecution Offices to lodge complaints and provide testimonies related to any violations experienced during the war. He also mentioned the establishment of a national platform for those in areas lacking public prosecution offices to submit their complaints.
The Attorney General reiterated the Public Prosecution’s dedication to conducting its duties in compliance with established procedures and fair trial standards, ensuring the rights of both victims and defendants are fully upheld.
