Jabir Chairs Supreme Committee for Currency Replacement’s Meeting

Khartoum: Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lt. Gen. Engineer Ibrahim Jabir presided over the 17th meeting of the Supreme Committee for Currency Change and Replacement, in the presence of Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim. The meeting focused on the integration of banking applications with the operations of the Supervisory Committee of the Electronic Payment Emergency Chamber.

According to Sudan News Agency, the Minister of Finance, Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim, emphasized in a press statement the necessity for electronic collection and payment in all government units. He announced that agreements have been signed with various banks to facilitate the collection of government fees. The Minister highlighted the committee’s ongoing efforts to establish legislation and regulations for electronic collection, aiming to control the payment process and enforce penalties for transactions conducted outside the electronic payment system.

Dr. Gebreil further mentioned that the meeting considered the possibility of allowing regions such as North and South Kordofan, where the currency replacement process has not yet occurred, to continue using the old denomination. The meeting also instructed the Ministry of Communications and Digital Transformation to support all ministries with the essential tools to eliminate the need for mobile devices and to train accountants in using the devices to improve the electronic payment process.
