Madani: The Irrigation Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation announced the launch of a recovery project following the destruction, sabotage, and plundering of the irrigation system, including the main irrigation workshops, by the terrorist militia of the Dagalo family. The project involves restoring water flow from Sennar to the main canals after repairing 1,500 breaches in the irrigation channels.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, Engineer Daw Al-Bayt Abdel-Rahman, reaffirmed in a press briefing in Madani the ministry's commitment to achieving water security from the primary source at the Sennar Dam. This aims to meet the water needs for irrigating winter-season crops across all sectors of Al-Gezira Scheme and to support the Irrigation Directorate's efforts to ensure the success of both the winter season and electricity generation.
The Undersecretary of Irrigation outlined a comprehensive plan to address issues with the Mena, Al-Suki, Al-Rahad, and Al-Junaid pumps in the coming period, confirming that all crossings, canals, and water control structures will be handed over to Al-Gezira Irrigation Directorate, in addition to providing two cranes and 23 vehicles.
Meanwhile, the Director of the General Directorate of Mechanics and Electricity, Engineer Kamal Al-Din Hamza, announced the handover of the Abu Oshar irrigation workshop to Al-Gezira Project Administration, while retaining Madani and Al-Gurashi 24 workshops to serve other irrigated projects across Sudan. He highlighted the systematic destruction suffered by the modern Al-Junaid pumping station and confirmed that communications are ongoing with the implementing company for its rehabilitation.
He also affirmed the rehabilitation of all irrigation canal gates and the provision of cranes to ensure the smooth flow of irrigation water.
