Baghdad: Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, has taken decisive action by dismissing the commanders of two Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) brigades following their involvement in an attack on a government office in Baghdad. The incident, which occurred on July 27, has led to severe repercussions for those involved, as individuals connected to the attack have been referred to the judiciary for further investigation and potential prosecution.
According to Nam News Network, a committee tasked with investigating the attack identified armed elements from the Kataib Hezbollah group as responsible for the incident. These individuals are affiliated with the PMF’s 45th and 46th Brigades. The committee’s findings were made public through a statement by Sabah al-Numan, who serves as the spokesperson for the commander-in-chief of the Iraqi forces — a role also held by Prime Minister al-Sudani.
The statement revealed that these armed elements acted independently, without any official orders or authorisations, and engaged in the use of weapons against security personnel. This reckless action resulted in casualties among both security forces and civilians, highlighting the severity of the incident and the need for accountability within the ranks of the paramilitary forces.
