Khartoum: The International Labour Organization (ILO) has initiated practical steps to bolster vocational training and skills development in Sudan, focusing on key recovery and reconstruction priorities. This effort marks a significant move towards addressing the country's pressing needs in the wake of recent challenges.
According to Sudan News Agency, Human Resources and Social Welfare Minister Mo'tasem Ahmed Saleh highlighted that the ILO delegation's visit involved discussions with various stakeholders, including employers, workers, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Central Bank of Sudan. The delegation also visited German and Chinese vocational training centers to evaluate the extent of war damage and identify rehabilitation needs.
Both parties have agreed to prioritize vocational training and skills development, alongside employment and livelihoods, social protection, economic reintegration of returnees and displaced individuals, and the advancement of labor-market institutions.
The ILO is set to conduct an immediate technical needs assessment to pinpoint priority interventions. Additionally, the two sides have agreed to establish a joint technical team aimed at transforming the agreed priorities into tangible programs. These efforts will align closely with Sudan's new Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP).
A tripartite consultation workshop concerning the program is slated to commence on Wednesday, signaling the next phase in this collaborative initiative.
